A garden needs care mostly from spring to autumn: mowing the lawn, trimming the hedge, raking the leaves and tidying everything up at the end of the season. Not everyone has the time, the strength or the equipment.
Help in the garden is easy to find, but prices differ depending on whether the helper brings their own mower and whether you are charged by the hour or by the area.
Typical prices for garden work
The ranges are for an ordinary garden at a family house. Large or neglected plots are usually priced individually, after a visit or from photos.
| Work | Typical price (2026) |
|---|---|
| Garden work, hourly rate | 250–450 Kč/h |
| Regular lawn mowing | 2–5 Kč/m² |
| Mowing tall or neglected grass | 4–8 Kč/m² |
| Hedge trimming | 30–80 Kč per running metre |
| Raking leaves | at the hourly rate |
| Taking away garden waste | 200–600 Kč per trip |
Typical market ranges in 2026. They vary by city and job and are for orientation only, not SkillNav prices.
What lawn mowing costs
A garden of 500 m² with regular mowing comes to roughly 1,000–2,500 Kč per cut. The price per metre drops with the size of the plot and with how often it is mowed. Grass that is kept up is quick to cut; an overgrown meadow needs a brush cutter and more time.
Check whether raking up and taking away the grass is included. If you have a compost heap, you can leave the cuttings in the garden and save money.
Other garden jobs
- Hedge trimming: the price depends on height and width, and a tall hedge is trimmed from a ladder.
- Raking leaves and autumn tidy-up: usually at the hourly rate, plus removal.
- Spring clean: raking the lawn, tidying the beds, pruning shrubs.
- Pruning fruit trees: an experienced gardener can manage smaller trees, but tall trees and tree felling are for specialists with the right equipment.
Regular care or one-off help?
If you want the garden to look good all season, it is worth agreeing regular care, for example mowing every fortnight from April to October. The helper gets to know your garden, the work goes faster and each cut usually costs less.
One-off help makes sense for the spring and autumn tidy-up, or when you are going away on holiday. Bear in mind that the first visit to a neglected garden takes longer and costs more.
What affects the price
- Own equipment: if the helper brings a mower or hedge trimmer, they will include that in the price.
- The state of the garden: overgrown grass and a neglected hedge mean more work.
- Slope and access: work is slower on a slope or in a narrow garden.
- Removal: grass, leaves and branches are usually taken away for an extra charge.
What to agree beforehand
- The area and exactly what will be done.
- Whose equipment it will be and who pays for the petrol.
- Whether raking up and taking away garden waste are included.
- For regular maintenance: how often, and what happens if it rains.
